Themes

All researchers working in the field of biophysics are welcome to submit their contributions. Themes include, but are not limited to:

  • Molecular Biophysics
Molecular Biophysics aims to investigate and quantitatively understand the structure, dynamics, and function of biological systems at a molecular level.
  • Materials Biophysics
Materials biophysics investigates how the physical properties of biomaterials and their phase transitions contribute to the mechanics of life using the experimental and theoretical tools of soft matter physics.
  • Cellular Biophysics
Cellular biophysics aims to understand the morphology, dynamics, and functions of cells. Key concepts include cell signalling, intracellular transport, mechanobiology, electrophysiology and genetic networks.
  • Tissue and organ biophysics
Tissue and organ biophysics bridges the gap between cellular biophysics and the development and morphology of whole organisms. It focuses on structure-function relationships on a scale where specialized cells assemble into tissues and organs using a combination of signalling and mechanics.
  • Systems Biophysics
Systems biophysics studies collective behaviour, emergent properties, and biological function of multicomponent systems with a focus on networks, spatiotemporal organization, and complex systems.
  • Technology development and imaging in biophysics
Technology development and imaging in biophysics focuses on enabling technology for the biophysics research and translation of biophysical knowledge into practical applications. The theme covers instrumentation, biophysical and imaging technology, advanced microscopy, computational biology, and biomedical engineering.
